What's On this December in Otago

From mechanical marvels to fêtes and films, from pixies to painting and festive lights, there is much to celebrate this December in Otago.

For pixies not pixels this holiday season, bring the kids to Pixie Town at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum from 4-24 December. A local Christmas favourite since 1951, watch the tiny ferris wheels, circus acrobats and other “mechanical marvels of the age”.

Have fun with your Christmas shopping this year at the Cromwell Festive Fête, 4 December at the Cromwell Racecourse. Bring your friends for a day out of live music and local food, wine and beer, and browse the quality arts and crafts. On Sunday afternoon, 5 December, it’s “A Very Central Christmas - with Highlands” at the Alpha Street Park. Join the parade and enjoy the performances, capped off with Christmas songs in the park.

Get inspired for your next outdoor adventure this summer with the Gutsy Girls Adventure Film Tour, 9 December at Rialto Cinemas. In eight short independent films, the evening showcases the courage, grit and determination of adventurous women blazing trails across the globe.

If you’re looking for an original gift and a fun night out, Paintvine’s Paint and Wine Night could be just the ticket - 9 December at The Dish Cafe & Bar. Gather up some friends and paint your own Christmas Kērēru, with the help of the artist instructors and wine from the bar.

Finally this month, hop aboard a beautifully restored heritage bus for a Christmas Light Tour with the Otago Museum and Heritage Buses. Running from 17 to 19 December, book your ticket now for a busload of festive fun.
