What’s on in Otago this July
There’s something fun for kids big and small these winter school holidays; 10 - 25 July, with more events throughout the month.
This Friday 2 July, catch local sensations Drax Project and Mitch James with Special Guest AACACIA live at the Dunedin Town Hall. From 2 July to 16 July, celebrate Matariki with a festival unique to Dunedin - Puaka Matariki - a programme of community and digital events all about wānaka (learning) and whanaukataka (community spirit). For a great night out in support of breast cancer research, get some mates together for Fashion for a Cure, 7 July at the Emersons Brewery, complete with catwalk, canapés and the latest from premier fashion labels.
Get fired up for the school holidays on 10 July with Light Up Winter, a family night out in Cromwell with live music and performances, a night market of winter goodies, the mass lantern release, a ’light up your hat’ competition and parade. The NZ International Science Festival always brings curiosity and wonder to Dunedin with workshops, shows and activities - check out the full 2021 programme of inspiring events taking place across the city 8 - 18 July.
For more school holiday entertainment, get along to this year’s Gang Show - Mayhem at the Museum. Watch exhibits come to life in the musical comedy performed by Otago Scouts and Guides, 13 - 17 July at the Mayfair Theatre. This month the Mayfair also hosts Kiwi rock musical smash hit, That Bloody Woman. Book your tickets for the story of Kate Sheppard and New Zealand’s suffrage movement, performed by Taieri Musical 22 - 31 July. Cap off July with a fascinating concert by the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra - Pastorale - comparing the symphonies of Knecht and Beethoven and blended with Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, 31 July and 1 August at the Kings and Queens Performing Arts Centre.
