What’s on this May in Otago

Get out for a walk, buzz through Central, throw some leaves around and take in some great local events this May, with amazing markets, fine dining, sumptuous ballet, inspiring short films, and Dylan Moran.

This weekend, check out the two-day ‘Growers and Artisan Crafters Market’ at the Wingatui Race Course. Treat yourself to something yummy and explore the wide range of popular stalls and entertainment. Next weekend, if you’re looking for something a bit special in the women’s clothing line, don’t miss the ‘I Am Found Market’, on Saturday 13 May at the Maori Hill Community Centre. Try on unique vintage, preloved and handmade clothing and accessories from 11 handpicked stalls.

Make it a Mothers Day to remember on Sunday 14 May. Book your place at Titi Restaurant’s Mother’s Day Brunch event with Quartz Reef, and celebrate in style. Then, for exquisite style you can’t eat up, soak in the splendour of Romeo and Juliet by the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Experience Shakespeare’s greatest love story at the Regent Theatre on 20 May.

The Big Bike Film Night is rolling into Otago this month. Get inspired with a curated selection of short films to “celebrate the fun, adventure, and joy that cycling enables”. Enjoy your Night on 22 May at Rialto in Dunedin, or catch it at Alex on 16, 19 or 23 of May, Wanaka on 17 or 18 May, or Oamaru on 23 May. Comedy enables joy too, even at its blackest. See Black Books star Dylan Moran in his latest show ‘We Got This’ on 22 May at the Regent, and leave Autumn laughing.
