What’s On this December in Otago

This December, Otago abounds in music and cheer.

The Regent Theatre gets the bauble rolling with the Christmas “Good as New” Book and Gift Sale, 4 and 5 December. Bring your list and fill a Santa sack with books, toys and games, CDs, DVDs and other gifts and goodies for the family.

On Saturday 5 December, pack a picnic and bring the kids along to Christmas in the Stadium. Enjoy live music from Suzanne Prentice, Bill Acklin and Rainbow Rosalind, face painting, bouncy castles, food, crafts and more.

In the evening of 5 December find your bliss with Th’ Dudes at the Dunedin Town Hall. This postponed tour features kiwi music icons Peter Urlich, Dave Dobbyn, Lez White and Bruce Hambling and music from their latest compilation album Bliss.

For a fun day out in Central, book in the Cromwell Festive Fête, 5 December, at the Cromwell Racecourse. Wander the stalls, enjoy local wine, beer and music and tick a few things off your Christmas list.

Santa’s coming to town on Sunday 6 December for the Annual Santa Parade. Give the big guy a wave and cheer on the floats, bands and fire engines, then join the concert in the Octagon for some family favourites.

This year, why not forget the gravy, the dishes and who’s bringing the pav’ - and escape for a relaxing Christmas Day Lunch at Larnach Castle? Celebrate in style with a stroll of the gardens, a glass of bubbles and a scrumptious three-course lunch.

On 30 December, get out your bike and select your event in the Bannockburn MTB Classic - Adventure, Classic, Sport or Recreation. All welcome and a great ride to round out the year.

Finally, from 30 December to Saturday 2 January, it’s time to pitch your tent at the 46th Whare Flat Folk Festival. Celebrate, share and soak up the stories, songs and music, learn new skills and dance in the New Year with your friends, at the Waiora Scout Camp.

So many ways to support local and have a ball this Christmas in Otago - see you out there!
