What’s on this June in Otago

This month, there’s much to reward body and soul with events throughout Otago to get you out and about and having fun.

Laugh off winter and its chills with a van-load of New Zealand’s best loved comedians. Catch the 7 Days Live tour at the Regent Theatre on 11 June. Also on 11 June, head to Mt Difficulty winery for a wintery fun run around the Cromwell Sluicings. Walk or run half marathons in team, solo or youth and kids categories or run a full marathon solo, in the Highland Events Rustic Run.

For winter chills of a ghastly kind, get your tickets to Larnach Castle’s evening of Victorian Ghost Stories, Tuesday 21 June. Gather around the ballroom fire for some spooky storytelling, then explore the castle by torchlight before steadying the nerves with a spot of supper.

It’s time to gather cans for Octacan, Presbyterian Support Otago’s winter food drive. Help to restock the Family Works food bank by donating cash or non-perishable food items this Matariki eve, Thursday 23 June. Also this Matariki, celebrate the inaugural holiday on Friday with Mana Moana: Ōtepoti, a spectacular show of water and light for the whole family. Enjoy the cinematic experience created by Māori and Pāsifikā artists, from 5:30-8:30pm, 24 - 26 June at the Steamer Basin.

Crisp, clear Central Otago night skies and the Māori new year reflect the themes of Winterstellar 2022 - time, space, stars and what we see from our place amongst them. There’s much to contemplate at this stunning exhibition of astrophotography and videography, 18 June until 28 August, at Central Stories in Alexandra.
