Donate for Octacan - 22 June

This shortest day, let’s help Dunedin’s busiest food bank! Octacan is Presbyterian Support Otago’s major winter food drive, which supports many local people through the colder months.

The shortest day of 2023 falls on Thursday 22 June. It’s a time when we look forward to Matariki, the Māori new year, a traditional time of harvest.

Matariki is important in signifying our connection to food resources and their environments. Five of the Matariki stars are connected to areas where food is harvested. For Octacan, donated cans are collated in the lower Octagon and arranged into the shape of the Matariki cluster, each star representing a particular food group.

The Edinburgh team will be collecting cans at our Dunedin office. Team members and anyone passing by with cans or coins are welcome to pop in and add your donation to the box.
